Episode 4 - Becoming My Own Soulmate with Danielle Parks

Danielle’s Resources:

  • A Journal - this is the best external example of a very internal process…using your journal as an intentional space to reconnect with yourself…to build trust in yourself, to begin to rebuild that relationship with you!

  • Untamed by Glennon Doyle - a great book to reopen that dreaming part of you! If you feel as though you haven’t allowed yourself to really ‘dream big’ this may help open that part of you - give you the permission you may have been asking for!

  • The Choice by Edith Eger

  • Renee Wilkinson (find her on Instagram) her Meditations will blow you away

  • Insight Timer App - Pura Rasa and Rising Higher Meditation

  • Rumi’s Poem The Field, and The Guest House

  • Thich Nhat Hahn - The heart of the Buddha’s Teaching.

*Ultimately* The best resource is your inner voice - listening to the way your body or you feel as you see things you either like or dislike will help lead you along the path of your own discovery - these are merely suggestions…as you reconnect and recommit to you…that is the path of becoming your own soulmate.

Episode 2 - Happiness over Perfection with Stef Tousignant

Stef’s Resources:

Stef’s website is parentdifferently.com and that’s where you will find the 90-Day Parenting with Gratitude Challenge - which is a free weekly email series filled with science backed activities to try with or without your kids. And you can listen to her podcast “Parent Differently with Gratitude” on any podcast player.

Follow her on Instagram at @parent_differently where each day she posts something new about gratitude or motherhood and basically pumps you up for this chaotic job called Life with Kids.

If you have young children and are looking for a mindful bedtime book try Stef’s book “The Middle of the Night Book” which teaches children to notice their own sleepiness using a bodyscan meditation.

The study we talked about in this Episode is called “Get Excited: Reappraising Pre-Performance Anxiety as Excitement” and it was done by Alison Wood Brooks at Harvard University.

Stef’s book recommendation would be “The Little Book of Gratitude” by Dr. Robert Emmons. A quick and easy guide to incorporating more gratitude into your daily life.

Episode 8 - Recognizing Seasonal Depression with Marissa Chabai from BLND Health and Jessica Garrison, writer for FEEL Podcast

Marissa’s Resources/Sources -

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is known as Major Depressive Disorder with seasonal pattern in the DSM-5. Onset of depressive symptoms is directly correlated with a particular time of year and full remission occurs at a certain, separate time of year. No nonseasonal major depressive symptoms occur outside of that time.

Symptoms:

Feeling sad or having a depressed mood

Loss of interest or pleasure in activities once enjoyed

Changes in appetite; usually eating more, craving carbohydrates

Change in sleep; usually sleeping too much

Loss of energy or increased fatigue despite increased sleep hours

Increase in purposeless physical activity (e.g., inability to sit still, pacing, handwringing) or slowed movements or speech (these actions must be severe enough to be observable to others)

Feeling worthless or guilty

Difficulty thinking, concentrating, or making decisions

Thoughts of death or suicide;

We can all be affected by season changes/shifts; however, if you feel you might have SAD, please contact a mental healthcare professional such as a social worker, counselor, psychiatric NP, psychologist, or psychiatrist to be evaluated.

Self-care and treatment of SAD/mood related seasonal changes:

Circadian rhythm: transition your sleep/wake cycles to light/dark cycles, get at least 10 minutes of sunlight (or bright light if unavailable) within 2 hours of waking up, nighttime routine

Therapy

Physical activity

Vitamin/mineral deficiency, hormones, and cortisol levels – PCP, functional/integrative medicine provider, holistic psychiatrist

Medication

What do you love about the other seasons? What about that can you incorporate into your routine/life/environment?

Social engagement/support system

If you would like to seek out help from BLND Help and/or Marissa Chabai please see this site for more information on how to do that: https://www.blndhealth.com/
