Episode 23: Self Care in the Simple Things with Erin Copelan
Erin is a speaker, best-selling author, and licensed massage therapist. In 2009, she was appointed sole Caregiver to her husband as he was diagnosed with cancer, underwent multiple surgeries, and had a successful liver transplant. With caregiving experience that spans over a decade in multiple states with multiple medical centers, Erin was called to share her stories with the under-served caregiving community. Through hope, community, and love, Erin has dedicated herself to developing resources and trainings that help soften the caregiving journey. Erin is a UNOS Ambassador helping to spread the word of the importance of organ donation. She loves writing, the ocean, being at her cat’s beck and call, and learning new ways to express her creativity.
Ways to Engage: Erin brings up an interesting point of caregivers experiencing PTSD, something I never thought of before but reigns true. Think of a time you’ve been a caregiver, been cared for, or witnessed someone caring for another person. Think of the emotions you felt, the emotions that person may have felt, or anything you picked up on from the experience. There are memories or trauma you may be carrying with you that need to be brought to the surface, or this could offer a new perspective to a situation you’ve been in.
